ABOUT WASHTE

If you're like me, hair has always been a complicated issue. To be honest, I didn't learn how to properly care for my hair until adulthood. For my curly/wave hair this is a multi-step, multi-product process that needs to be done with love and intention. I have learned that having a healthy connection to one's hair is vital to intergenerational healing.

Our hair is a combination of all of those who have come before us. Honoring and learning to care for one's natural hair isn't something that is taught in school, however it's as important as any other academic subject. Too many have felt ostracized by not finding tools to cater to textured hair or natural haircare routines in general. There is a trope of "good hair versus bad hair" that tragically leads some to believe that their thick, curly, textured hair is not easily manageable. I want to validate the experience of those who need multiple brushes, combs, and time to do their hair and make those processes easier.

History is more cyclical than linear. In the past practices were put in place that made us lose connection to our ancient beauty traditions, however I am happy to report that the narrative is drastically changing and even happier to play a role in this changing tide. In a full circle moment we humans desiring a return to our most natural states.
